Santa brings joy to Lyons

With a hearty 'Ho, 'Ho, Ho!' Santa rode into the Borough of Lyons on Dec. 16 - elves, sleigh and all. For the past 18 years, Santa has visited Lyons to spread holiday cheer and this Christmas was no exception.

"I think it's really super neat that Santa comes to visit the Borough of Lyons each year," said Lyons Mayor Randy Schlegel. "The people of Lyons do believe in Santa Claus."

This year, Santa came bearing gifts for kids of every age, making sure that no one left the borough empty handed. He went to each and every house, 200 in all, and even knew the children by name.

"He's so nice," said six-year-old Callie Kline. "I love Santa. He gives us presents."

Throughout the day, Santa gave gifts to all residents, young and old.

"I think it's really cool," said resident Sandy Britland of St. Nick's visit. "This is our fifth Christmas here and it's always been fun."

While everyone received a 75-year commemorative Lyons pin and a piece of fruit, kids were given toys and books. Santa even remembered to bring doggie biscuits for all of the good puppies in town.

Resident Terry Isamoyer said he and his family anticipate the arrival of Santa every year and wouldn't think of missing the Lyons holiday event of the season.

"We've lived in Lyons for 15 years and the kids always look forward to it," said Isamoyer, father of two boys. "It's just something that not many towns do - the kids love it."

"I love helping Santa," said Ritter. "When you go into a house, the kids get really happy and everyone's smiling - it just makes you feel really good."
